How to effectively use AI for WordPress SEO work.

Do you know that AI means Google deals with over 7.5 million new pages of content daily?

That’s a lot of content, and recent algorithm updates have been designed to accommodate this.

People often forget that it costs Google (et al.) money to spider their sites and index their pages.

With so much AI-generated content produced simply by promoting ChatGPT, Google has made changes.

The recent Helpful Content Update has introduced a site-wide ranking marker, which, in a nutshell, means this:

If your site has a significant number of indexed pages which are of low value, the entire site (including its good pages) will drop in the rankings.

This means that if you flood your site with AI-generated content, your current ranking pages could suffer.

The best thing to do is to invest the time or money in getting your content written by a human.

SEO tip: Many larger sites have already been hit by Google’s Helpful content update, so no, I don’t use AI to write content, and neither should you.

Ways that you can safely use AI for your site content.

Don’t let if write it for you, but you can use it to help you plan it.

ChatGPT is very good at helping you plan articles for your website. It can help you ensure you cover all the bases and don’t miss anything.

Of course, I do use AI: I use it as an assistant rather than a copywriter – mainly because I like writing myself.

Having it brainstorm an article for you is a great way to get a framework for your article.

Giving it something you have already written and asking it to highlight any SEO holes is also a great use of AI.

Below are some useful things that AI can help you with for your site content.

How to leverage AI to help you write better content and save time.

These are some tips that I have developed myself and others I’ve discovered from research.

I generally use a paid Chat GPT account and a paid Claude account.

Get AI to help you plan your article rather than write it.

GPT is very helpful for creating content outlines. These are lists of everything you should include in your content.

You can ask it to act as a pro-SEO expert and give you a list of everything you should be including so when you write your article, it’s remarkably optimised.

Use GPT to proofread the stuff you have written.

I already use Grammarly and have done so for years, but GPT brings something new to the party.

If you post your written content to GPT, it can proofread it, suggest content gaps, and help you improve the structure.

Part of the art here is to tell it to act in a role so a professional editor or an experienced SEO copywriter can get the results you want.

Use it to add hyperlinked content sections to your blogs.

If you have a long blog post, adding a contents section linked to the headings below can be a right pain in the arse.

Instead, in WP, switch to text view, copy and paste the HTML into GPT, and ask it to do it.

Ensure it returns the result to you as code, which you can then paste back into the WordPress editor.

Have it write a TL:DR section for your article.

Very hand for this, do make sure you humanise the result, but GPT does a great job of distilling your 1500 words into a bite-sized synopsis that you can add to the head of your article (good for on-page SEO).

You will need to edit this, but it forms a great starting point to work from.

Get it to suggest meta descriptions.

Again, paste your human-written article in and ask it to suggest a few meta descriptions for your content.

It’s great to use these as a starting point for your own ideas.

Make use of its analytical skills.

If you are unsure what synonyms to use on your anchor texts or how to optimise your external link anchors.

You can paste it into your article, give it the keyword you are working on, and ask it to give you suggestions for other KWs to use and anchors to link.

As AI can see your 2000-word article in more detail than you can, it can spot things you’ve missed.

Don’t use it to write articles.

As clever as AI is, it is not human, so do not use it to write articles for your site unless you plan to spend as much time editing them as you would writing them in the first place.

You might see a temporary bump in your rankings, but this will be followed by a slump that could negatively affect your other content.

Your tone and opinion are your best assets.

Don’t underestimate Google’s ability to sniff out AI content.

One of the main issues with AI-generated content is that it all sounds the same, even if you try to tell it otherwise.

Your unique style of writing and tone of voice add an originality to your content that AI simply can’t match.

How can AI help with SEO?

AI can take some of the planning time out of SEO work by helping you to plan and structure optimised articles for your site.

Never use it to write for you; it will have a negative effect on your whole site.

How can I help you with artificial intelligence and WordPress SEO?

The primary way I can help is by being able to deliver more SEO content work in a shorter amount of time.

AI has meant that I can be more productive and help more clients by getting AI to do some heavy lifting.

I am not a novice user of AI, infact, I have worked on the UKs first AI Generated Image library, where we use a whole range of AI tools to create images for sale.
